Information Session for Bearing Witness at Auschwitz / Birkenau

Each November, Zen Peacemakers returns to Auschwitz-Birkenau to sit together and bear witness. This session is an open hour to ask about that practice — what the week actually asks of you, and what it might ask of us together. It is for anyone considering the retreat, and equally for those already registered who are holding questions.
The retreat draws on more than thirty years of gathering at this place, and those holding this session carry that experience with them. Bring what you are wondering about: what bearing witness means in practice, how the days are shaped, daily Council, the reading of names, time at Auschwitz I and Birkenau, travel and lodging, and the practical question that comes up every year — what to bring.
Nothing is expected of you here beyond your questions. Come to listen, or come to ask.
